Before I started this site I did a little research to see what is out there at the moment which is geared at helping newcomers to the stock market. Why don’t you try it now, type stocks for dummies into google. Most of the sites that come are completely useless. It’s sites set up purely for advertising hoping you get bored and click on one of the links. That’s why most of them have that awful white background and look like they’ve been designed by a five year old. Yes I know I have adverts on this site too, I have to pay for the hosting somehow! I’m hoping that the content on here will speak for itself once it starts to help you get ahead in the stock market. So please don’t waste your time on some of the other sites you’ll find on Google they really are a hinderance more than anything else.

One site I would recommend you check out is www.fool.com more commonly known as Motley Fool. You will actually find useful advice on there and a helpful community in the forums. Motley Fool isn’t one of the places that’s known for this but please please please don’t be suckered into get rich quick schemes. If you think somethings to good to be true it usually is. I wouldn’t buy any stock on someones recommendation unless I had done my own analysis first. Once you know how to analyze a stock you won’t have to rely on anyones tips.  The type of analysis I do is always based on Warren Buffetts value investing technique. You basically look for undervalued stock. There’s a little bit more to it than that but I’ll do a whole series of posts on it and how to turn the technique into stock picks.

It’s such a tricky time to be buying stocks with the way the economy is. You never know who’s going to be posting losses next which inevitably sends the stock price plummeting. Once you’re aware of the value investing technique this will seem like less of a problem. It doesn’t matter if the market is going up or down, you know you’ve bought a bargain and if you hold long enough the chances are you’ll be able to cash in and make a few coins. It works for Warren Buffett why shouldn’t it work for you? Patience is the key my friend!

I started off this rant, I mean post talking about all the thing sites out there trying to sell you the idea of buying stocks for dummies. By all means have a read at them and let me know if you find anything useful. :) I’ll save you the time. Have a read at this and the motley fool and you’ll save yourself some serious pain!
