Hi and welcome to the first of what should be many posts! The aim of this site is to provide an education for those of you who are new to the stock market. So if you’ve always wondered how to buy stocks for beginners then this is the site for you. So what makes me qualified to hand out advice on investing in the stock market? Well I’ve been doing it successfully for over 20 years now. I can also remember how difficult it was when I was started out. Trying to get to grips with all the different concepts of bear and bull markets and then the numbers. I wasn’t the best math student in high school I admit that, so getting to grips with p/e rations and dividend yields took me some time! I think you’re either a math person or you not…and I’m certainly in the latter category.

Stock Market For Beginners

The plan is to firstly go through some of the common terms you’ll hear and then take things a little further by going into the different types of investing techniques out there. That’s for the more advanced class though. Hopefully you’re still hanging in by that point. I follow the value investing approach taught by Warren Buffett and Ben Graham before him. I figure that if you want to be successful in something then you have to study the guys who have been successful before. Warren Buffett is certainly one of the most prolific stock market investors of all time so he’s a great person to start with. The essence of his teaching is to look at an investment for the long term. At the moment with all the horrible environmental disasters that’s happening in the U.S thanks to the BP oil spill it’s caused the companies market value to half in size. Some people may look at it and say well maybe there’s a bargain to be had there. Should I buy BP stock? Although usually on a much smaller scale, things like this happen all the time. Some incident that may affect a companies stock market price which may send it sky rocketing or slumping in the gutter. The trick is to look for long term value and forget about the day to day fluctuations. I will go into value investing in much more detail in a further post. I thought it would be useful to let you know where I’m coming from right from the very start of this project.

Throughout the posts if you have any questions don’t be afraid to ask. The aim of the site is to help newcomers to the stock market get a head start. I’ve wasted a lot of time and unfortunately money to get where I am today so if I can pass on some of this knowledge to you it might just save you from making the mistakes I made. I want it to be a collaborative effort and to build a community where everyone can help each other how. Buying stocks for beginners doesn’t have to a stumble in the dark when we have so much information now at our fingertips. With the help of a few friends we can certainly give it a good go!
